Seeing NB then Wanderer put together some pretty darn cool splash screens, I had an idea for hopefully getting some more publicity.
I propose we run a "Design the Splash Page" competition for each issue on dA. We judge the best submissions each time, and the winner gets his design on the front page for that issue. As an additional bonus, I thought we'd offer a novel of their choice as a prize...pretty appropriate, and I'm sure I can stretch to a novel every couple of months.
Which leads me nicely into I'm thinking of setting up a PayPal account for the site. It's not costing me much with the traffic we get currently, but that may go up if traffic does, and if nothing else, it may cover the cost of our splash page prizes.

"Design our cover, get a novell!", that's a pretty good settlement, i wouldn't mind working for that at all.
Does that mean i can let you know what novel i'd like? :P
But yeah, they're good ideas; specially the paypall account. I've been thinking about doing that for tetrica.com too, to let the entire community share server costs and all.
One other thing that i've been thinking, is that the site could have a "front cover archive": a set of screenshots (or even html-pages, so that all entries are clickable) from each issue front-cover. Gives the visitors another thing to look at, and it'll nice to measure how transference develops too. Do you still have the very first front-cover arround somewhere?

Yeah, the winner gets to pick the novel.
I guess a front cover archive would be pretty cool, actually...don't know if there's much point archiving the original front page...it wasn't a spalsh screen of anykind, just a more boring news page and stuff.

I deserve a novel, too! Where's my novel? =p :D
The contest sounds like a great idea, but I'm a little apprehensive... Contests at dA get a heck of a lot of halfhearted, poorly executed, run-of-the-mill, or just plain BAD submissions. We'll have to roll up our sleeves and wade through a dungpile of mediocrity, if you get my drift. What if we don't like a single submission? What then, eh? =D
Okay, I'll stop being a party pooper. (Dungpile. Pooper. Such refined metaphors. *slaps self*)

they can do...but seeing as most people ain't doing much writing currently (how's that for a subtle hint...) I figure we can probably spend the time to flick through the submissions...well, hey if you and Wanderer enter, then we're bound to have at leats two good submissions :P
