Project Muse

Hola, fellow literary banditos.

So I’ve this idea for my site, and I wanted to get the opinions of those here and a few other places before putting in the work to implement it.

I’ve entitled this idea “Project Muse” for the time being. Basically it will consist of a forum on my site where people go on and submit any kind of creative work for the front page of my site. Anyone would be able to do this, I won’t make people register first, you’d be able to go onto the forum as a guest and post up whatever you wanted. Of course, not just anything would make it to the front page, but I’m an easy man to please.

Ideally, given enough interest, I’d like to set up a voting system within the forum so members can vote on whether or not a piece makes it to the front page. But I’d have to have at least a few dedicated members for this. Although, I could also just use the simple poll option in the forum for it, letting whomever vote on a piece with a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

Now, I understand that this seems a bit like what you guys do here, except I would like to make this a weekly event. Say, every Wednesday a piece will be posted on the front page from “Project Muse”. If there’s enough interest and involvement, then it could be twice a week, and so on.

Doing it through a forum will allow me to maintain control over the content of the site by not just giving out posting accounts, and controlling the timing so people aren’t posting over each other. Each approved submission will be posted by me under an account likely to be called “Project Muse” or “The Muse”.

Needless to say, full credit will be given to the author of each work, by real name or online pseudonym, and a link to their site, or a site they’d like to promote.

Also, everything that makes it to the front page will be archived on a special static html page on my site that anyone may visit whenever they choose. The links to the archived stories will go through the news script, so there could be constant commenting even though the story may have slipped off the front page in time.

This idea is basically to inspire more reader-interaction on my site, and to put up more creative material to balance out the ranting and complaining I tend to do.

I’d love to have you guys come over and take part, as I know you already have the skills.

Anyways, let me know what you think.
